ごあいさつ

今年も気づけばあっという間に過ぎていってしまいました。年々、時が過ぎるのが早くなっていくように感じます。

春の薪割り、夏の草刈り、秋の釣り、そして冬の雪かき、それぞれの季節の生活の作業に追われていると、深くあじわう間もなく次の季節がやってきます。いまは一年を振り返りながら、それぞれの季節の微かな匂いを思い出しています。

ここ数日、古い友人から教えてもらった、新谷暁生さんの「知床日誌」というブログを読んでいました。経験を積んだその冒険家の言葉に「自然に対しては経験は役に立たない」という言葉があり、考えさせられました。冒険に限らず人の生き方として、自分の経験への慢心を戒めるとても大事な考え方だなと思いました。そして同時に、その考えは長い経験からしか導き出されない言葉だなと。

Chopping firewood in the spring, mowing the grass in the summer, fishing in the fall, and shoveling snow in the winter: As we are busy with the tasks of each season, the next season will soon arrive. Now, as I look back on the year, I remember the subtle scents of each season.

For the past few days, I've been reading a blog called "Shiretoko Diary" by Akio Shintani that an old friend of mine told me about. This experienced adventurer once said, "Experience is useless against nature," and it got me thinking. I think this is a very important way of thinking that warns against being arrogant about one's own experiences, not just in adventures but in one's way of life. At the same time, I realized that this idea can only be derived from long experience.
